Monitoring our impact

Aedas has been monitoring its carbon footprint since 2006, and has set targets for reducing our energy and water consumption and resource use, which include a reduction of operational CO2 emissions by 25 per cent, through office energy savings and efficiencies through online communication and modes of travel.

Building on our in-house experience we are one of the first UK practices to implement a series of measures to track, assess, and improve the environmental performance of our designs and practice. We have captured this approach in the Aedas Green Book and have developed a work-flow to support the work of design teams which includes the Aedas Green Tool, Design Guides, regular design reviews and sustainability reports.

Aedas Sustainability has spearheaded the development of industry platforms, methodology and designs that address the discrepancy between forecast and actual energy use. Our Sustainability Group led the development of CarbonBuzz – www.carbonbuzz.org – an RIBA/CIBSE platform that benchmarks and tracks project energy use and CO2 emissions from design to operation.
