Aedas was appointed to prepare the concept and scheme design for the Cross-London line’s proposed £275m Whitechapel Station. Aedas R&D worked alongside the design team to bring visibility to the site with a form that is both structural and graceful whilst incorporating the functionality of a world class transport interchange.
The station geometry concept is defined by a continuous section composed of tangent arcs that scale and shear based on the platform edge. Through parametric relationships implemented with Digital Project, regions of the double curved external surface were constrained to accommodate flat claddign panels and simplified column intersections, minimising detail complexity. The interactive rig developed for the concept project also incorporates structural parameters for coordinating internal spaces and cantilever limitations.
