Dubai Metro
Aedas UK is collaborating with Aedas Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai on the design of 43 metro stations and related depot buildings in Dubai, with Phase One recently completed in 2009. The iconic family of stations, developed with Aedas Advanced Modelling Group, are composed from conic shells and feature sweeping cantilevers that soar to over 30 metres. The geometric 3D approach not only helped create an impressive form but allowed considerable savings of time and material through streamlined cross-disciplinary coordination leading to substantial reductions in cost, time and embodied carbon.
Aedas Advanced Modelling Group also provided detail design of the flashing interface between the cladding panels and the inclined structural rib responding to design updates via 3D structural information. Built with Digital Project, the custom detail had to be designed within the tolerances of twisted aluminium panels to unite the continuously changing geometry.
