The Visitor’s Centre competition for Giants Causeway brief was to blend into the spectacular landscape by following the contours of the hills and transporting the lava-rock formations into the ceiling and floor of the centre. It was meant to be tracing the landscape and history of formation.

A decomposition of a joint-shape between the rock cracks was generated by Aedas Computational Design and Research group through a Voronoi tessellation. Just as natural formations, the Voronoi diagram was recursively applied to itself, producing a grown structure that would serve as the roof and projected tiling on the floor of the Trace.
