Stockport Academy - Building Performance Evaluation (Academies)

View for

Aedas R&D have been commissioned by the Technology Strategy Board’s as part of their Building Performance Evaluation programme, to assess three academies for both energy and functional performance. The aim of the study will be looking to understand how educational buildings support learning excellence by comparing their performance, comfort and usability and seeing how they can improve and reduce their emissions in operation.

Case Study B
Stockport Academy is located close to Manchester, the building was a replacement for an existing building within the centre of a large estate and is part of the United Learning Trust built though a traditional route. Below a flight path the building has full mechanical ventilation system with some opening windows and built around a central covered atrium space. As a conditioned building it benefits from heat recovery, making use of ground source heat pumps and low energy lighting. It is performing relatively well but still falls short of its EPC design target. The academy have now signed up to Eco-schools and starting to work towards their first award.
