Rafail received his 5 year Diploma in Architecture & Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. While pursuing his studies he had the opportunity to work for a variety of firms practicing architecture, real estate management, and advertising.
After graduating, he worked as an Architect in Greece for 1½ years before continuing his studies in London, where he completed a MSc in Adaptive Architecture & Computation at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, UCL, qualifying with a distinction.
Rafail joined Aedas in 2007 to work as an Architect and as Computational Designer in a number of commercial projects. His experience in architectural design and his specialization in computational and parametric design allow him to divide his time between design, construction and research. Rafail is registered with the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Architects Registration Board.
Anders Deleuran
Computational Design Researcher
Anders graduated with a Master of Science in Engineering degree in Architecture & Design from Aalborg University, Denmark in 2008, specializing in digital design within a broad scale of projects including architectural, industrial and graphic design. Furthermore, he completed a one year course in Advanced Visualisation at Umeå Institute of Design, Sweden in 2007.
During his studies and following his graduation, he worked as a freelance designer and visualiser for several architects and designers in Denmark. In 2009, he joined the Centre for Information Technology and Architecture (CITA) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen as a research assistant and designer. Here he worked on several projects including international collaborations with Mark Burry (SIAL, RMIT) and Philip Beesley Architects (Waterloo).
Anders also holds extensive tutoring experience through his work at CITA and as an external lecturer and teaching assistant at Aalborg University. He joined Aedas in July 2011 to work as a Computational Design Researcher with the R&D Team.
Christian Derix
Director of Computational Design Research
Derix founded the Research & Development group at Aedas architects in 2004. He leads the Computational Design Research group [CDR] that develops computational design applications for generative and analytical design processes in architecture with an emphasis on properties of space and human occupation. Recently, the work of CDR has been shortlisted for various design prices and research awards like the Compasso d’Oro in Italy and won the commendation of the President’s Medal for Practice Research of the Royal Institute of British Architects [RIBA].
Derix finished his architectural studies with an MSc in Computing & Design and has been teaching and researching the subject at the University of East London, University College London, Politecnico di Milano and Technical University Vienna. After graduating in 2001, he became joint-director with Paul Coates of the Centre for Evolutionary Computing in Architecture [CECA] at University of East London.
He is currently doing a PhD on the subject of Computational Design at TU Vienna.
Cynthia Duku-Asamoah
Team Assistant
Åsmund Gamlesæter
Senior Designer, Computational Design Research
Åsmund has been working as Computational Design Researcher at Aedas since May 2007. In this time he has been investigating new forms of furniture design, architecture and urban planning through code. This has resulted in a set of tools and sketches implemented in design projects both inside and outside Aedas.
Åsmund graduated with an MArch from NTNU, Norway in 2006. After completing his studies he started working with Pablo Miranda Carranza on spoorg, a project by the architecture group servo, for which they were responsible of the interaction design. In 2006-2007 he worked as an Assistant Designer at Stockholm office of Kram/Weisshaar.
From 2006-2009 he has been part of the visiting faculty at Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design. There he has held a series of Open Studios, as well as advising Master students at the Experience Design program at the same school. He has also held graduate level seminars at the architecture schools of NTNU and University of East London.
Lucy Helme
Senior Designer, Computational Design Research
Lucy joined the Computational Design & Research group at Aedas in January 2009. Since then she has been working to develop and apply computational techniques on a wide range of architectural projects, from masterplanning to data visualization.
Prior to joining Aedas Lucy completed a MA in Industrial Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2008. During her final year project she developed a system for the design and manufacture of customizable small buildings for the domestic garden using generative design and computer aided manufacturing techniques.
Lucy also has a strong background in science. She has done research into the physics of materials at the University of Oxford, completing her PhD in 2006 and publishing in leading journals in the field. This scientific background has given her a good training in analytical modeling and design of rigorous experiments which she is now applying to architectural problems.
Prarthana Jagannath
Computational Design Researcher
Prarthana completed her Bachelor’s in Architecture from the University of Mumbai, Mumbai, in 2008 following which she worked as an architect in Mumbai for a year before pursuing higher studies at UCL, London.
During the M.Sc. in Adaptive Architecture and Computation at the Bartlett Graduate Studies, she looked at the mapping of 3d geometry onto N-dimensional spaces through self-organised maps as the subject of her dissertation.
Prarthana joined Aedas in Feb 2011 to work as a Computational Design Researcher with the R&D Team. Before this she was involved with research in the Bartlett Graduate Studies Department as a Research Assistant and in teaching within the department as well.
